My Girl Scout Life
There's a verse to a folk song that goes something like:
Ummm-ummm and as the years go by
Ummm-ummm I'll think of you and sigh
Ummm-ummm and know this was goodnight
and not goodbye
The people I have met through scouting are special in my life
in ways that are hard to describe with words. I know of no other
group that will accept long distance collect telephone calls
via their answering machine so that they can call me back to sing
a song to me, to listen to a trouble, to suggest a method for making
a dream happen. I know these people through:

Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council
(VSGSC) - where we try to make
things better for the girls of today because they are the leaders of
tomorrow
-
Association III - one of the groups of Virginia counties that are
a part of VSGSC - we are the group on the east side of the Blue Ridge
Mountains in the northern part of the Council
-
Charlottesville Service Unit - where my troop was based and where I learned
a lot of about girls, troops and people
-
Charlottesville Service Center - the support staff for the troops
in our area: what would we do without these people??!!

VSGSC Troop 381 - now defunct as I knew it, because the young women in it
grew, graduated from high school and went off to various colleges.
I miss them.

Camp Sugar Hollow - that magical place near the bottom of the
Sugar Hollow Reservoir outside of Charlottesville, Virginia,
that provides so many girls with the
opportunity to grow a little stronger in the sun and rain for
a brief time each summer. Closest community is White Hall,
Virginia.

Training - more fun than people are usually allowed to have legally can
happen to those who choose to share themselves with others by becoming
a Girl Scout trainer

Singing -
folk songs - sung by campfire light, on the trail, before each meal; our sharing of
our voices brings us closer together
