I have also used a beeswax lined horn for many years without problem. Someone taught me a really neat way to clean it without melting the wax. Fill the horn with clean, cool water and drop in one of those fizzy denture cleaning tablets. Let it do it's work, than rinse it out. Works great!

Take your horn, pressure hose it out, toss in a whole handful of denture cleaning tablets, fill with water, and leave it for a couple of hours. Rinse well. As long as you rinse it after each use (or at least once a day at war, and no milk products), it will be jsut fine. once a year or so, dentureclean it again. Mine is ten years old.
