| 1. Plans for unix cluster. | Jim/Hamp
|
Final announcements going out. Faraday goes away March 25th. Nudging POP users. Get equipment ordered for E-school this fiscal year. Convene cluster group again this fall. Current WATT becomes Minerva replacement. Do some sizing. Small Solaris cluster and add AIX nodes? Maybe poll users on how they might use Solaris cluster. Software on only one platform, e.g., ANSYS on AIX versus take to Solaris. Move Khoros to Solaris? Other savings or costs? |
| 2. Archive (hardware and software). | Hamp
|
Archive ADSM is 3.1 (not 3.0). SP can see it now. Transfer will be user by user. Target date: Fall, 1998 Contact each and say we will move you -- can't touch archive during transfer. Coordinate creation of new archive group. |
| 3. "Research News" | Tom | Draft out. Add dialin link, from TMS's e-mail on this topic. |
| 4. Software Installations and Updates (including GIS/ESRI and GCG) | Ross
|
Move the avery users of GCG to ACHS's crick. Mover rest to a Unix lab machine, but only one CPU. Dawn spoke with Steve H. and gave him info on ESRI. Haven't heard from Steve about meeting of Univ. and college purchasing. Gaussian (G94) - got biochem user working. Runs 3 jobs @ time and she's happy!. |
| 5. NPACI (National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure) and SUR Grant | Chris Hamp |
NPACI webpage done! Will send notice to research group. SUR: Hardware here and being sent to users and reconcile list. |
| 6. SP | Tom | Will get back on checkpoint issue. |
| 7. ITC Research Advisory Committee | Tim S. | First meeting fell through so trying again. |
| 8. GRA Training | Tom S. | "met" |
| 9. Department Outreach | Tom |
TAS talked to MRS - can tread lightly but share credit. He's not sure they see us as equal partners. |
| 10. Y2K Issues | Tim T.
|
Jeff S. working with Vonda S. on rsch part of this. Let Jeff know so he can sit in on mtg / Copy Lori. We have Y2K plan for unix - it's under control. |
| 11. Process Simplication | Tom | New item from Jan mtg. Research oriented piece of Process Simpl. OSP "G.A.M.S." $.25 million package that tracks grant $, positions, etc. Not really rsch comp. support but sort of. Melvin M. is ITC person on this task force. |
| 12. Non-IBM Research Computing Engines (both Sun and SGI) | Hamp | Proposal for next fiscal year. A cluster for researchers, i.e., not "entitlement" users. Research cluster - not blue or orange cluster. A kind of extenstion to SP. Not SP nodes - but would run LoadLeveler. Run GCG - visual piece - need interactive use greater than allowed with SP. |
