Tasks & Projects To Do: Last Updated 1/27/98
Project Owner/Date Comments
1. Plans for unix cluster. Jim/Hamp A web page that discusses cluster issues has been developed.
2. Archive (hardware and software). Hamp IBM 3494 is here and working.
Have gotten ADSM 3.0 so will start testing - new target date - Fall 1988.
3. "Research News" Tom Need to add ADSM info to document.
TAS will have draft out by 1/30/98.
4. Software Installations and Updates (including GIS/ESRI and GCG) Tom/Ross Robin and Hamp still working on creating create a set of procedures for software installs. Perhaps the scope should be broadened to include micros.
Dawn is generating a list of contacts that are interested in a statewide ESRI/GIS license; Mike Phoenix (of ESRI) can do 15 Va state supported 4 yr colleges/universities for $100,000. Dawn will poll 15 to see what they want to do.
GCG - Not all of version 9.1A works - there will no longer be AIX versions of the software. An alternate is to run on Solaris or SGI's (not just crick). Hamp will identify GCG users who are NOT on avery to see if they have their own workstations.
Gauss is being moved to the sp. Bought 10 user floating licenses. Got the license key from Econ - not sure if it is working - need test cases.
Ross mentioned a web submission form for Gaussian jobs. Ted is looking into this - Gauss can be compiled on sp (users may still have problems with running)..
5. NPACI (National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure) and SUR Grant Tim S. NAPACI: We need an NPACI webpage.
SUR: Tim S will send Hamp a list of what gets/got what.
6. SP Hamp Switch works (the upgrade did fix this).
Install of HPF done.
Need to create/modify documentation regarding parallel submit and other differences between versions.
7. ITC Research Advisory Committee Tim S. and Dee John Hawley (Astronomy) - is the chair - John reports that he has recruited about 1/2 of the committee members.
John is trying to get a meeting time.
The committee will review request for SP migration projects, etc.
8. GRA Training Dee Tom S will meet with CS students (CS 696).
Other people to contact:
Rich Isreal (GSAS)
Mitch Rosen or Dean of Grad Students (SEAS)
9. Department Outreach Dee and Tim Tim is doing a Darden followup.
There is misconception afoot regarding the dual roles of ITC and library with packages such as CRSP, GIS, etc. Tom will talk to Martha regarding ITC credit (when due) on the Library's webpages.
We will also modify our own web pages to reflect this.
Dawn is checking with Commerce/Darden regarding access to CRSP data sets on CD's.
10. Y2K Issues Need owner The Y2K issues of researchers needs to be "turned over" to the departmental coordinator. We need to confirm who that person is and give this issue to them.
