ITC-ResComp
Tasks & Projects To Do: 1/25/99
Project Owner/Date Comments
1. Unix Cluster Hamp/Dee Cluster CDP winding down; all users migrated, Feb 23: hobbes & palladio disabled, curry becomes web server only. Avery becomes web server only March 30.
2. Non-IBM Research Computing Engines (both Sun and SGI) Hamp/Tim T. Orange cluster and SGI cluster (Unix lab) names will be orange#.unixlab and teal#.unixlab respectively.
Have "accounts" webpage similar to CTime's for these accounts and SP accounts...all be same account database.
Not SP nodes - but would run LoadLeveler. Some interactive CPUs.
Run GCG - visual piece - need interactive use greater than allowed with SP. Software on only one platform, e.g., ANSYS on AIX versus take to Solaris.
Move Khoros to Solaris? Other savings or costs?
3. Home Directory Project Hamp/Dee "Disk Wedges" approved at $63 per 250 MB per year. Allocating 6-8 GB for wedges.
4. Archive (hardware and software). Hamp/Tim T.

Tim T.
Archive ADSM is 3.1
SP can see it now.
IBM removed ADSM from Consortium software; waffling about cost. We're proceeding anyway, software wouldn't be off-list until 10/2000. Transfer will be user by user. Target date: Spring, 1999
Coordinate archive (ADSM) group.
Contact each user and say we will move you-can't use archive during transfer.
5. "Research News" Tim T. Writing for a spring "edition"
6. Software Installations and Updates . .
7. NPACI (National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure) and SUR Grant Tim S.
Tom

Legion still has a "few" bugs.
8. SP Tom
Ed

Tim S.
Will get back on checkpoint issue.
Will survey/monitor class usage and see how accurately classes are being used.
Still waiting on "fix" for switch. Upgrading nodes to 160 Mhz processors. 8 nodes will be dedicated to parallel jobs.
9. ITC Research Advisory Committees Tim S., Tom S.,
Tim T.
UCIT committee drafting proposal/report for research computing. Proposing expanding ACHS "model".
ACAC has res. computing subcommittee headed by Steve Stern. Discussing long & short term solutions.
10. Department Outreach Tim T. From ACAC res. computing subcommittee: need to try again-figure out better way to reach faculty - faculty meetings? Surveys?
11. Y2K Issues Jim We have Y2K plan for unix - it's under control.
UVA Year 2000 Task Force Jeff Sponaugle chairing research issues
12. Process Simplication Tom (2/98)Research oriented piece of Process Simpl.
OSP "G.A.M.S." $.25 million package that tracks grant $, positions, etc.
Not really research computing support, but sort of.
Melvin Mallory is ITC person on this task force.
