I. Corrections to
minutes from last meeting on October 31, 2003?
II. Old Business:
- SP retirement: December 15, 2003 - letters e-mailed to 19 (since 6/03) +
22 (9/02 to 6/03) recent users
- VPN and IP Filtering for FlexLM license daemons. Can we implement by mid-January on separate license computer?
- Clustering UnixLab machines - Console logging turned on?
- Aspen Cluster: 200GB disk on frontend, re-installation today.
- Ganglia/Gmond usage page -Making "ganglia" graphics work for UnixLab
computers?
- PBS Pro upgrade on Birch, Bill was going to look into how complicated this
upgrade would be, to schedule over Winter break
III. New Business:
- Transition from RedHat Linux to replacement.
- Do we need separate CDP?
- What to go to, how to decide, how to support, rollout, etc.
- LSP and current user-base input
- On separate license manager computer, is it up yet? Can we get large
drive (e.g., 40 or 80GB) with /common, on which we have root to do our
software installs/upgrades?
- Two Charges from Dr. Reynolds:
- "White paper" on next steps in ITC's research computing
infrastructure by mid-February. Katherine and Ed have already have
a rudimentary start, so we'll continue and pull together a draft to
circulate, drawing from the RCTF and the three ad hoc faculty committees,
two of which have final reports we can incorporate recommendations
from.
- Dean's Technology Council, December 10: mass storage/large storage
needs.
Pick up on discussions from RCTF ad hoc committee, include key people
from that and produce draft for December 10 DTC.
- Leo Zhiglei (lz2n) wants to buy cluster - working with his students
on testing on our cluster. He's talking with his Dean and Mitch Rosen.
He'd like his house in MEC, so his students can have hands-on experience
on setup, maintenance, administration.
- ITC's strategic planning: do we have specific input we want to suggest?
IV. Adjourn by 12:00 PM and next meeting
- Next Scheduled Meeting: Monday, December 22,
10:30 AM in ITC-Astronomy Conference room
