II. Old Business:

• Research Computing engines.
  • Update on PBS Portable Batch System (PBS) testing on orange (SUN) cluster. Teal cluster won't have PBS, SGI o200-1.sp2 (gcg.sp2) is reserved for interactive use of gcg.
    What are remaining questions/issues for rollout of Orange and Teal clusters?
  • Generate list of possible items (hardware and software) for research computing funds (approximately $250K).

• HSM
  • Earl Mark from Arch.School mentioned disk space issues at March 6 project proposal meeting. I spoke with him afterwards. What he's seeking is large temporary space for students to store/manipulate large files for this projects. Apparently MIT has something called the "bit bucket" that students can use. Cleaned out weekly. Could the HSM have such a space set up for it. If you already have HomeDir installed, you could attach to it? Raise the issue here,because affects Mark, Hamp, Sue Ellen, Robin, but will set up meeting to discuss, since not really a research issue, more of an instructional issue, so want to include John A.

• Software
• How often, what the procedure for Gnu tree updates, e.g., gcc 2.9.5?
• Research Computing Support Group meets after this meeting to discuss about how to monitor and decide to retire stat. and math software and get new/different packages.

  • TimT:ACAC committee met March; Working on reporting back on items from UCIT Strategy Plan, detailed response,what's currently done, what needs to be done, completion dates, etc.
