I. Corrections to
minutes from last meeting on November 24, 2003?
II. Old Business:
- SP retired on December 15, 2003 Hamp blocked logins in mid-afternoon; no
complaints or last minute requests
- Magnetic tape retirement - in final phase. No 9-track tapes now. See announcement:

- VPN and IP Filtering for FlexLM license daemons. Unix Systems set up separate
server; Testing and documentation proceeding. Mathematica done; working on
other packages one-by-one, notifying affected users first.
- Unix Lab machines - Console logging turned on?
- PBS Pro upgrade on Birch, Hamp was checking with Bill to see how complicated
this upgrade would be in order to schedule over Winter break
- Updating Orange and Teal clusters to latest PBS Pro version. - timeline;
could it be over winter break?
- Proposal to change configuration based on previous discussions: Create
PBS cluster with front-end for each cluster.
- Put 2 of SGIs behind ACHS firewall for HIPAA use/compliance
- Take 4 compatible CPUs and hook them together via link. If other 4 CPUs
are compatible, link them as well.
- Long term goal is to have routing queues set up (or Condor-G) so thta
use can log into central system and submit to any PBS queue we have.
- Update on where Enterprise Linux rollout, licensing and pricing stands?
Hamp's unilateral announcement/e-mail on Jan 15th to linux-admins
- Unix Systems considering Linux Cluster support as a for-fee service?
- ITC's research computing "white paper" draft will be out this
week.
III. New Business:
- Software installations: (E-mailed January 7th) Intel 8.0 and Scalapack.
Intel upgrade likely to be major.
- Planning for next release of IMSL, which will be built with Intel compiler
rather than PGI and may require older version of Intel compiler and MPI..
- DNS allocations in 10.x.x.x range - issues for Linux clusters, both within
ITC and around U.Va?
