III. Old Business:
- Impending
Cluster rollout and retirement
- Elder
is ready for rollout -- will go ahead with it after the HPC bootcamp –
maybe August 21 or 22 – announce soon.
- Athena
retirement – also after the HPC bootcamp -- maybe August 21 or 22 –
announce soon.
- Tim/RCS
staff will do review of other institutions queuing and cluster purchase
programs in preparation for public forum on queuing policies. Will do the
review after the HPC bootcamp.
Likely to host the public forum in October – or maybe November.
- Linux
Clusters: Cedar, Dogwood – any issues, concerns or upcoming
updates/changes?
- Cluster
upgrades depend on when next version of ROCKS released (RHEL 5 out), and
no word yet -- possibly fall break.
- Retiring/removing
Sun Ultra60s from E225. Emailed Lloyd Harriott, EE Chair and Mitch.
Proposed Aug 15 removal – and it is OK.
- VT-UVa
IT Collaboration. HPC Bootcamp Aug 7-10; 13-16.
- Response/enrollment
has been super!
- James scheduled to do 9AM welcome along with Terry Herdman from VT.
- Need
to reserve nodes for quick turn around queues – after some discussion we
decided to just use Dogwood for the bootcamp (in the interest of
simplicity) – and keep Elder in reserve just in case it is needed.
- August
16 field trip to VT for visualization facilities tour – invite other UVa
folk (e.g., Bernie Fischer, Dean Abernathy, etc.)
IV. New Business:
- Retiring
aix.license and solaris.license. (ITC-Transistions CDP notified?)
- All
replacement license managers are running already – and aix.license is
gone – will announce date for solaris.license.
- Oak
cluster upgrade – testing applications under Solaris 10. Will do upgrade
the week of August 13 – taking down half of Oak, doing the upgrade, bring
that half up, then taking down the other half.
- Any
news, information from E-School? SURA? Other organizations?
- Any
other Items?
- Mike announced that ITC go the go-ahead from Leonard Sandridge to proceed with plans to build the new machine room on Old Ivy Road. About 10K square feet of machine room, probably build out about half for immediate occupancy and rest later. Will be dark facility, no office or operations staff. He said Jim thinks it'll be about two years before occupancy.
- Completion
and review promises and requests from this meeting.
